Accident Investigation Kit

Each resort should maintain a complete accident investigation kit and keep it centrally located for easy access by your investigative team. The following equipment is recommended for your kit:
-
*Backpack: Your team will find a backpack is a very convenient way to carry items they may need when investigating an accident. Whether the incidents occur in a building or on a bike path, grab the backpack and you are ready to go.
-
*Legal Pad and clipboard.
-
Camera: A 35 mm, or a disposable camera will work well. Many of the resorts are using digital cameras. Remember to properly train your staff on how to shoot appropriate photos. If you use a digital camera, do not delete any pictures. Once you have taken a picture, save it.
-
*25-foot tape measure: You will need this to triangulate your accident scene. (Refer to Accident Investigation – Recommended Procedures).
-
*Markers: 2x2 orange flags on a 12inch wire rod will be very helpful when taking pictures of the accident scene. The flags should be used for accident scene triangulation. They may also be useful in demonstrating the path a rider took, for example the use of the flags will make the pictures you take look more professional.
-
Tape Recorder: A compact tape recorder can be useful for recording names and addresses of witnesses, or recording distances to be plotted later, as part of your accident scene triangulation.
-
Miscellaneous: A roll of surveyor’s tape can be useful to “rope” off the accident scene. A pair of disposable gloves and a medical waste bag/bodily fluid spill kit should be included. A can of spray paint can be used to mark a tree or object, so you may identify it later.
-
*Investigative forms: These forms may be used to document the details at time of the accident. These forms are for your use only. Never give a copy to anyone who is not either a Resort employee or someone working on behalf of your company.
Note: The investigative forms supplied by RHA are Resort- specific and include your RHA member ID # in the top, right corner. Use this number when reporting accidents to Gallagher Bassett.
* Supplied by RHA, as part of the RHA Accident Investigation Kit.
